Family, Food, and Fiestas: My Life in Spain


By Victoria Mairal-Cruz ‘12, Lens Editor. I am a full-blown, curly haired, fiesta-loving española. Spain, for me, is the one place where all things are good. It is the one place where I get to have fun, be with my family, and fully show a part of myself that I don’t get to express during the year in Cincinnati. I have spent a month each summer for the past nine years staying with my yayo (grandfather) and yaya (grandmother) in the hamlet of Ceresa, in the Sobrarbe region of the Pyrenees Mountains of Spain.

Junior Sarah Mae Selnick travels to Greece

The schedule gave me the idea that I would be spending my summer planting corn, feeding cows, and cementing roads; not exactly my cup of tea. Due to a family legacy that I had to uphold, I was forced onto a plane with 23 strangers whom I would be spending the next 5 weeks with.

Seniors attend medical programs at hospitals, universities, and wilderness camps

Allison Lazarus travels to Israel as Bronfman fellow


This summer, I traveled to Israel for five weeks on a Bronfman Youth Fellowship. Although I knew that this would be an intense experience when I applied, I realized quickly that I did not really understand then how rigorous the program would prove to be. Over the course of the summer, we were exposed to truly amazing issues and people in the context of some of the most beautiful and meaningful places in the world.
