Baking for beginners: styles and utensils to know

A quest for the best… apple pie


With you-know-what season approaching, it’s time to break out the best of the pie recipes and roll up the sleeves in the kitchen. This weekend, I spent my Saturday baking off two varieties of one of the best forms of pie: apple. The two pies were identical in every aspect except for the type of apple; in the first I used half Granny Smiths, and half Fuji apples, and in the second I used half Granny Smiths and half Jonagold apples. On Sunday I had a tasting and the results are in, and they may surprise you!

A quest for the best…pumpkin pie


Sophie Weinstein ‘13, LifeStyle Editor. With the bevy of fall treats advertised throughout autumn the options can be overwhelming. One of the most popular and ubiquitous desserts every fall is pumpkin pie! In order to determine the most “mouth-watering” from the other potential pies, I got together with food expert Holly Dayton ‘13, Baking Club leaders Julia Murphy ‘13 and Isabelle McAlevey ’13, as well as some eager food enthusiasts for a serious taste test.

Science Olympiad rises above competition, qualifies for State

Sophomore paper narrows scope, moves to History Department


By Sally Portman ’13, Contributor. The sophomore paper is looking a little different this year. The assignment will now be chaired by the History Department instead of the English Department, a move Mrs. Pat Dunn, English Department Chair, sees as “more sensible.”

Academic Team working hard to repeat last year’s success

After Academic Team’s successful season last year with wins against its biggest rivals Wyoming, Indian Hill, and Seven Hills, the team has graduated some of its most valuable players. This year’s team is working hard to fill the big shoes left by last year’s senior class.
