Tipton to take to soccer field at Bucknell

Tipton to take to soccer field at Bucknell

By Jules Cantor ‘11, Sports Section Editor

In late summer 2009, senior soccer player Corey Tipton committed to the Bison of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. After transferring from Loveland High School to Country Day during her junior year, Tipton had two remarkable seasons in an Indians uniform. The 2009 co-captain was a Cincinnati Enquirer All-Star, First Team All-MVC, and First Team All-City selection. Tipton committed to Bucknell in the early signing period for the class of 2010, and was sure that Bucknell was a perfect fit.

“I chose Bucknell because it was all I had wanted in a college: it has a great academic record, as well as good athletic reputation. The coach was very friendly and sincere, and I felt very welcome around the team and the campus,” said Tipton, who also had offers from Northwestern and Elon.

Bucknell is a Division I program. Thus, managing athletics and performing at optimal level inside the classroom will be a challenge for Tipton. “Hopefully some of the older girls on the team will be available to help mentor me. I know [managing my time] will be one of my biggest challenges, but I plan on working hard in the classroom first, then on the soccer field. Academic success will come first.”

Tipton is currently undecided on a major but says she is interested in studying many different subjects under multiple focuses. She added that Country Day has prepared her well by giving a “generous amount of homework,” which will help her adjust to the college workload and academic environment. Tipton plans to play for all four years at Bucknell and says that “if an opportunity arises to play elsewhere, I definitely would not hesitate.”

When Tipton graduates from Country Day in the spring of 2010 it will be the departure of one of the best overall athletes in recent school history. The varsity track and soccer star left a lasting mark on her teammates and coaches, and will strive to make a similar impact at the next level.
