Fashion: Weinstein on spring trends

Fashion: Weinstein on spring trends

By Sophie Weinstein, ‘13, Contributor

When warm weather finally arrives, it can be hard to ditch the sweaters and Ugg boots you were used to wearing all winter.  However, unless you want to be uncomfortably hot, it’s a necessary step. Here are some stylish staples for a perfect spring wardrobe that can carry you through the summer and even the fall.

As the saying goes, before you can enjoy those May flowers, you have to endure those April showers. Don’t get caught unprepared in the rain! Get yourself a pair of quirky rain boots.  Pick a patterned or bright colored pair that could easily be worn with jeans for school or a skirt on the weekend. Don’t put the boots in the back of your closet…you’ll want to wear them through summer thunderstorms and chilly fall football games.

For a colder spring day, try something new (other than your usual North Face fleece jacket). Take inspiration from military jackets.  The utilitarian style can easily be made more feminine by wearing the coat with a denim skirt, or over a sundress.  To accessorize the coat, try adding lots of bangles or a printed, spring scarf.

Instead of just wearing a tank-top or simple t-shirt this spring, try a flowing peasant top.  To avoid looking too “Age of Aquarius,” make sure it isn’t too loose and not too bright.  The top is versatile and can be paired with shorts, skirts, or jeans.

For shoes, keep the earthy vibe throughout and pair it with gladiator sandals.  Depending on how much you want the sandals to stand out, you can try them in gold or just brown with an accent like studs.

Don’t be afraid to try new things this spring. Fill your closet with lots of versatile pieces that match a lot of the clothes you currently own so you get the most out of what you buy. Take the trends you see and make them your own!
