Obviously my quote was sarcastic, and I think that the entire senior class is very grateful for everything that parents do for us. Now more than ever we are especially conscious of the great traditions that have been passed down through the senior classes of CCDS's history.

Mr. Kirn's statement, "They crave it because they know, deep down, they’re lost, and tradition helps them hide this fear," could not be closer to the truth.

As the mother of a senior, I think a lot of the "extra" traditions are all about the parents trying to emotionally manage this life transition; hence, the growth of the senior surprise. What used to be little bags of candies once a quarter has ballooned (literally) into full meals set to various themes, replete with "gifts" of clothing and the like. It's a bit over the top. Let's keep the true traditions and encourage parents like me to process the graduation of our precious offspring by taking up golf or reading more books, not trying to make so many "memories" that we choke off the best of what we do.
