Inglourious Basterds thrills Baldur Tangvald

By Baldur Tangvald, ’11, Video Editor

Mixing comedy with violence, Quentin Tarantino provides an audacious and captivating look at Nazi-occupied France.  Tarantino has been working on this script for Inglourious Basterds for about 10 years. He claims that this film simultaneously has the best script he has ever written and is the best movie he has ever directed.  It is absolutely amazing. I am glad to see that it reaches the caliber of his previous films.  Inglourious Basterds is far from mundane as each event is unexpected. I’m struggling to express why I thought it was so good, or what makes Tarantino’s movies so different, but, like his other films, it has that Tarantino factor that makes it stand out. The trailers, however, were misleading. There is not as much action in the movie as the trailer suggests. Actually, there is a very large amount of dialogue, a good portion of which is subtitled.  Nevertheless, the dialogue doesn’t fail to entertain. Juniors Grant Hesser, Elliot Peters-Bambic, and I spent the entire show on the edges of our seats.  Seeing the horrors of the Nazi regime, we became fully invested in the film. When you see it, you may find yourself saying what my mom said after she saw the film, “I’m seriously disturbed that I found that so entertaining.” It’s grotesque, it’s thrilling, and it’s (in)glorious!
